Robotics Advanced

Advanced Robotics

The robot no longer just moves — it has a task to complete

A course for children who are ready to move from simple models to real engineering challenges. Children learn to build robots, programme their behaviour, work with motors and sensors, test solutions and improve the design so that the robot can complete its task.

[ Approach ]

The robot no longer just moves — it solves a problem

  1. Task

  2. Idea

  3. Design

  4. Programme

  5. Test

  6. Error

  7. Correction

  8. Result

In lessons, simply building a model from instructions is not enough. Children need to understand the task, come up with a solution, build a mechanism, write a programme, test the robot and independently work out what is wrong if something is not working as expected.

[ Skills ]

6 Advanced Robotics skills

01

Engineering thinking

Understand a task and find a technical solution.

02

Design and construction

Build stable structures and working mechanisms.

03

Programming

Control a robot’s behaviour through a programme.

04

Motors and sensors

Understand how a robot gathers information about the world around it and responds to it.

05

Algorithms

Break a complex task into a sequence of clear actions.

06

Testing

Find errors, modify the design or programme and achieve consistent results.

[ Programming ]

Building a robot is not enough. It needs to learn how to think.

Students programme the robot’s movement, motor operation, responses to sensors and sequences of actions.

Students learn
  • —algorithms
  • —conditions
  • —loops
  • —variables
  • —sensor data processing
  • —the logic behind an autonomous robot’s behaviour

Code turns a structure into a system that can carry out a task independently.

[ Competitions ]

From lessons to Robotex

Students apply their skills as they prepare for the Robotex competitive robotics event.

In a competition, a robot that “sometimes works” is not enough. It must complete its task accurately, consistently and within a time limit.

This teaches children to
  • —work towards a result;
  • —test a solution repeatedly;
  • —analyse errors;
  • —improve the design;
  • —work as a team;
  • —keep going after the first setback.
